I THINK ITS SAFE TO SAY EVERYBODY SHOULD WEAR WHATEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT

Can we all finally realize that men and women can wear whatever the fuck they want!?

Instead of calling them “Romp-him” or “male rompers” let’s just stick to calling this normal summer piece of clothing, Rompers. Today there is still a fight for clothes and colors to be gender neutral, and people are growing frustrated with the new Rompers trend that is now being targeted for men. It is rare for men to enjoy and experience a high fashion moment in history, especially in a society where masculinity doesn’t allow such liberation. However, let’s not forget how most fashion trends were originally meant for men and not women. For instance, in the year 1580, men would wear them as a way to showcase wealth and authority. In the 18th century, women did not wear wigs, it was men who mainly wore wigs, and it was their fashion statement. On the other hand, rompers are not a new thing for men, besides it being originally introduced to children and mostly worn by adult women, it was around before for men.

Rompers were being worn by men during the 70’s and early 80’s it makes sense since it was the disco era, it seemed most appropriate and comfortable for the dancefloor and gritty times. The old trends seem to always make a comeback, and even though toxic masculinity has been around in almost every era in history. It seems to be more of a reaction when we see men wearing things like high heels, makeup, and modernized rompers today. The reason for this might be because people are expressing themselves more freely now than ever before. Social media plays a major role in the dramatic reactions, particularly because we live in an obsessed meme culture.

I believe what is most bothersome about the romper reactions are the homophobic responses. It does not make sense to assume a man is gay because he wears a piece of clothing that’s found to be most appropriate for women. A piece of clothing should not determine our sexuality. It’s like when men wear the color pink, it ignorant to assume wearing the color pink as a man would make them gay, as if the term gay or being gay is an insult, as if a color defines who we are. The cool thing is that these rompers which are being pushed for men comes with variated styles just like women rompers. Let’s keep in mind, the warmest season is approaching, it is the time of the year where everyone will be judged by what they’ll wear according to their physical appearance or gender. Can we all finally realize that men and women can wear whatever the fuck they want!?
